The given curriculum «Comparative migration policy» covers a range of fundamental and basic issues those are strictly important to know for the successful researches in the frames of the Master program «Economics and Migration». The course is designed for 144 academic hours, 36 hours are provided for the auditory work (27 hours for lectures and 9 hours for seminars), 36 hours are provided for contact hours (students work with lecturer individually or by groups, i.e. discussing the topics, structure of presentations, clarifying and detailing the issues not covered in lectures, etc.) and also 72 hours are provided for the individual work of the students.

During the lectures it is supposed to present the theoretical basics of the migration policy as a category, the specifics of migration flows and their management, state policy in the sphere of migration, specifics of state migration policy in the developed and developing countries and also in the CIS countries. As a separate part the migration policy of the Republic of Armenia will be reviewed. During the seminars it is planned to carry out discussions, case-studies and the individual and group presentations for the particular topics. In the process of preparation for practical classes students learn and reinforce basic concepts on the base of the core literature, as well as on topics of their interest on the base of extra literature provided by the lecturer.  The course is planned for the 1 semester. The course is designed for the 4 academic credits. The course ends by the exam (A to FX grades).

The students will be supported in their self-study, a further explanation of the most difficult issues on an individual basis is also supposed.

The students’ individual work (self-study) includes the work on the materials, obligatory readings for the each topic, preparing homework for the seminars.

During the semester students will be assessed for their presentations and homework and by the end of the course, as it was mentioned above, the exam will be conducted where the students have to demonstrate their knowledge of theoretical basics.

The final grade for the whole course will be calculated as the weighted average of the grade of current assessment and the grade for the exam. 

The course aims to equip students with the necessary skills to write reports, essays, and research papers and to carry out their independent research project - a dissertation by the end of their academic programmes. The teaching sessions are to familiarise students with the concept of methodology for research projects, components of methodology and significance of methodology in a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research. 

Curriculum on “Demography” course consists of syllabus, theoretical and practical parts, assessment tools and test materials.

Course is developed for students of all the specialties, studying demographic issues according to their curriculum. Syllabus of “Demography” course covers the range of problems in the field of demographic theory. Course suggests 144 academic hours, 36 of which – classroom hours, 108 of which – self-study hours. Lectures cover theoretical basis of demography, practical lessons suggest discussion, questions and answers.  During the preparation to practical lessons students study basic literature and additional sources, provided by the lecturer.

The course duration : 1 semester.

The course suggests acquirement of 4 academic credits and writing of 2 midterm exams (tests) after every 9 week module.

Students are provided with help in self-study and additional individually explanations to the most difficult topics.

Self-study includes learning of materials and home task doing for preparation to practical lessons.

As soon as 9th week of study is finished students are considered to pass a module, at which they shows their knowledge of demographic theory.

Exam score calculated as a weighted average of current assessment and midterm exam score. 

The curriculum «Migration Law» is designed for the Master students of the Institute of Economics and Business and  designed for in-depth study of legal migration, its’  subjects, international and national migration policy, the influence of migration flows on economic, socio-demographic and political situation in the country and the issues of their legal regulation.

The course is designed for 114 academic hours, from which 36 hours are considered for auditorial work (36 hours of lectures), and also the students individual work with the with the subsequent control – 108 hours. Ongoing consultations are considered by the lecturer, if necessary.

During the lectures it is considered to present the theoretical basics of main objectives, issues,  concept, meaning and sources of migration law, its’ interconnections with the other branches of law, historical development of this branch of law, types of migration and migrant cathegories, specifics of migration processes legal regulation, migration control system and migrants’ registration in the Republic of Armenia and ina a range of foreign countries, international cooperation in the fight against illegal migration.

Students’ individual work have to include a research component and should have the form of reports, accounts, scientific articles and other types of work, using the package of legal and regulatory framework provided by the teacher and basic and additional literature on the on the studied topic as well. Also a public presentation of the self-made research is considered.

The control of the level of knowledge is carried out in the correspondence with working study plan. The course is designed for one semester. In the process of course study 4 academic credits are supposed to be accrued. Also master students are supposed to write two intermediate control works after each of 9-week modules. The course is ended by exam and writing one research paper. 

Curriculum on “Socio - Economic Aspects of Migration Processes” course consists of syllabus, theoretical and practical parts, as well as assessment tools and test materials.

The course has a purpose to provide students with knowledge about socio-economic aspects of migration processes. Movement of human resources has strong impact on economic development of either donor- or recipient countries. Human capital is one of the key factors of economic development, and this problem is becoming more significant for developing countries, as Armenia is. Special attention is paid on the influence of migration processes on labor market (supply and demand, unemployment, labor force, wages etc.) and financial sector (remittances, investments, capital flows etc.). The course includes corresponding aspects of economic theory.

Course duration: 1 semester.

The course suggests acquirement of 8 academic credits (288 academic hours), 144 of which – classroom hours (72 lecture hours and 72 workshop hours), and 144 self-study hours (with the subsequent control). Final assessment form – exam.

Total: 8 ECTS = 288 academic hours.

Lectures cover the theoretical background of socio-economic aspects of migration. Basic literature, listed below is necessary for study of all the topics in the syllabus. Additional literature is mentioned for the each separate topic.

During the workshops it is suggested to implement quizzes, discussions, questions and answers, team work.  

Midterm exams in form of tests will be held at the end of 6th and 12th weeks of study, and in form of research   (case-study) with presentation at the end of 18th week.

Contact hours are for the additional time to work with students individually. Self-study hours include study of materials, homework, research, making of presentation.
